[QOTW] Ignore this QOTY Email Because It's Just A Duplicate For The Archives

Привет,

Welcome loyal friends to Quotes of the Year! Us, Kristofer and Wilder
have decided the results of this great and un-tampered-with election.
Certain fake sources of news information have been wanting UN oversight
over QOTW elections. Nonsesne! Some say Kristofer and Wilder have been
using Russian and Byelorussian election tamperers to sway results of the
election against Mr. Milo Kron and others. Also Nonsense. It just so
happened that Kristofer swept the award ceremony, winning every category
except Most Underrated Quote, which was given at Russian Minister of
Foriegn Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, for his joke:
“What is the difference between Georgia and South Ossetia? One should be
internationally recognized as an independent state!”

Thank you for reading this,
Kristofer “Кристофер” Mafoochi-Fitanidess
Wilder “South Ossetia should be internationally recognized as an
independent state” Perkince

Dear subscribers,

Sorry about that email. I can’t imagine how that could have got sent
out. Anyways, it’s not like I was encouraging interference in the QOTY
election from Eastern European dictatorships or anything. So, without
further ado, let’s begin the ceremony:

MOST VICTORIES:
Milo (3), followed by Anand (2)

MOST NOMINATIONS:
Milo (12, including his 3 wins); if wins are excluded, Milo and Mr.
Wharton are tied with 9

WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN AWARD (“given to the person who, like the great
Democratic presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan, gets nominated
over and over but never seems to win”):
Mr. Letarte (8 nominations), although his daughter did win one week

FRESHMAN UPSTART AWARD (for the 9th-grader with the most nominations):
Romen Der Manuelian (5)

MOST UNDERRATED QUOTE (as determined by the Quotemasters):
“You know what goes well with coronavirus? Lime disease!” —Ms. Haber,
with newly revealed context: she appeared out of nowhere and said this
to a bunch of us before we left for Harvard Model Congress

MOST QUOTABLE PEOPLE (10 Points Per Win, 4 Points Per Nomination, 1
Points Per HM):
10= Romen (24)
10= Mr. Sherry (24)
10= Collin (24)
9. Mr. Kerner (25)
8. Ms. Grant (28)
7. Ms. Haber (31)
6. Anand (32)
5. Mr. Letarte (36)
4. Chris Maffucci-Fitandes (40)
3. Mr. Perez (45)
2. Mr. Wharton (48)
1. Milo (67)
Email Wilder if you want any of the following:
- Your points/ranking
- The full Most Quotable Person rankings (as an Excel spreadsheet)
- A list of all of the quotes (including honorable mentions) from this
year (as a Word doc)

And finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for… the 2019–20 QUOTE
OF THE YEAR:
“Unlike Tie Day, Condom Day is not an opportunity” —Mr. Wharton
(narrowly defeating the feminism meeting announcement; 3rd place was Ms.
Budding’s quote on cats and proscriptions)

Quick note for graduating seniors (everyone else can skip this
paragraph): if you’d like to keep getting these emails and/or keep
voting next year, please reply to this email to request an alumni
account. If the way 2020 has been going so far is any indication, the
world will probably end in the not-too-distant future, but at least
you’ll have funny quotes to read before then.

Well, that just about wraps up Season 19 (wow) of Quote of the Week.
QOTW will continue next year under the leadership of some number of
people who will be named later. Thanks to:
- The 20 people who submitted valid ballots for QOTY
- Everyone who voted and submitted quotes all year
- Alex Ding, for programming the new website (did I mention it’s
shiny?), and dealing with glitches and our technical gripes
- Reilly Grant, for updating the servers to run the new website, and
continuing to host qotw.net
- Ben Orlin, for founding QOTW
(https://www.amazon.com/Change-Only-Constant-Wisdom-Calculus/dp/0316509086/)
- The entire Commonwealth community, for saying enough funny things to
fill 17½ almost-weekly emails
Have a great summer.
